Comic Relief Celebrates 25th Annual Red Nose Day
Every year, Comic Relief hosts numerous fundraisers in an attempt to use humour and comedy to help charities all around the world. Richard Curtis, the co-chair of Comic Relief founded the organisation in 1985 as a way to raise funds those less fortunate. This year is no different, with a number of events leading up to the main event, the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day.
Great British Bake Off
One of the big events this year was the Great British Bake Off, a televised four episode week-long event, where contestants competed in a Bake Off to raise awareness and money for charities. As part of the bake off one of the judges, Mary Berry, has prepared a special recipe and tips for bakers wishing to do a bake off or a fundraiser of their own for Comic Relief.
Russell Brand hosts Give It Up for Comic Relief
Another new event this year is Give It Up, a concert hosted by comedian Russell Brand to raise money and support for programs for drug and alcohol addiction. Brand says he was inspired to support this cause after the death of Amy Winehouse. The concert features a number of A-list comedians, including Eddie Izzard, Simon Amstell, Noel Fielding, among others. It also will feature musical acts, including Jake Bugg, Paloma Faith, Noel Gallagher, Kasabian, Jessie J and Rizzle Kicks. More acts are being announced leading up to the event which will be live on BBC 3 on March 6th 2013.
Paul Hollywood competes in Let’s Dance Comic Relief
Paul Hollywood, is competing in Let’s Dance this year. A celebrity baker and chief, he is known for being one of the judges on the Great British Bake Off. Let’s Dance is celebrity dance competition where celebrities re-enact famous dances in an effort to raise money for charity.
Red Nose Day to remember
With all these big events leading up to the 25th anniversary of Red Nose day, the big day is sure to be spectacular. This biannual telethon is pulling out all the stops beginning with a special night of television featuring comedians Lenny Henry, John Bishop, and Jack Whithall. Be sure to tune in for all the fun and laughs on the 15th of March.
